Who's DIGGING under our garden?! Tiny seeds and ocean dreams, paint and puppies, tasty things! Wonder it! Draw it! Know it, whoo! Juno Blooms! And so can you! Lolo, today we get to plant a whole GARDEN! Wiggle-wiggle, WOW! The diggers come TODAY! I'm planting the flowers around the Splash Park. And I'm helping DIG it. Zoom-zoom! Diggers dig… and worms dig too. Worms aren't MEGA. We'll see. ¡Buenos días, mija! The Splash Park needs a garden, and I need my best gardener. Me?! A RAINBOW garden, around the whole park. Planted by sunset! Only problem… this dirt is packed hard as a cookie. We'll figure it out! Snack for the road? You JUST had breakfast! My wonder question: Who digs underground? Feel the beat! Left, right, left! I brought snacks AND a watering can! Ooh, it's a blank canvas! A very… crunchy canvas. Before we plant, we need to know what's going on DOWN there. Then let's look closer! Garden rule number one: gentle hands… …curious eyes! And when you're done in the dirt, wash your hands with soap. Every time! Hey! This dirt is soft and squishy! Hello there… A noodle with no FACE! That's an EARTHWORM! Keep it in the soil on the trowel. Worms like to stay cool and damp. Can you wiggle like a worm? Great wiggling! Why is the dirt soft HERE but hard over THERE? Maybe the worm knows? Bloom Book — COME ALIVE! Whoa… it's like a CAKE under our feet! The top layer is TOPSOIL. Dark, soft, full of life. Roots love it! Under it is SUBSOIL, with little rocks and clay. And at the very bottom: BEDROCK. Solid rock! Topsoil, subsoil, bedrock! Which layer is on the TOP? TOPSOIL! You know it! Look! The soft side has tunnels. The hard side has… none. So somebody's been digging tunnels in the soft side! It's the WORMS! I wonder how a worm digs with no hands… Bloom Book, show us INSIDE a worm! It's HUGE now! Only in the drawing, Lolo. Real worms are small. Let's look closer! Wait… where are its EYES? Earthworms don't have any eyes. How does it see?! Worms FEEL light with their skin. Too much sun? They wiggle back down where it's dark. Close your eyes… can you feel the sunshine on your skin? Worms do that all the time! And worms don't have a nose or lungs. They breathe right through their SKIN. I can't breathe through my arm… You're not a worm, Benji! To breathe through its skin, a worm has to stay damp. That's why worms live in cool, wet soil. Stretch… squeeze… stretch… squeeze! That's how it digs! Stretch-squeeze is a BEAT! Feel it! Lolo… I think this is a SONG! Wiggle-wiggle, WOW! Bloop bloop! Ready, wigglers? Wiggle down, down, down Underneath the ground! Stretch it long , squeeze it small , Worms make tunnels for us all! No eyes, but it feels the sun, Breathes through skin when the rain has come, Keep it damp! Wiggly, giggly, champ! Wiggle down, down, down Underneath the ground! Stretch it long , squeeze it small , Worms make tunnels for us all! What's on TOP? Topsoil! What's in the MIDDLE? Subsoil! What's way DOWN? Bedrock, bedrock, ROCK! Wiggle down, down, down Underneath the ground! Stretch it long , squeeze it small , Worms make tunnels for us all! Make-It Moment! Let's make a WORM JAR! Brown stripe, tan stripe, brown, tan! It's like a design! Damp, not soggy! Just a few worms, some leaves for food, and they'll go back home in one week. And dark paper, because worms like the dark! In a week, what will the stripes look like? Still neat? Or all mixed up? Still neat! Worms are tidy. Mixed up! I think… they'll make a sandwich? Can we skip to next week? Bloom Book can! WHOA! Mixed up! I was right! Worms are NOT tidy! Worm tunnels are like little hallways. They let AIR and WATER get down to the roots. And these little crumbs? Worm poop! We call it CASTINGS. It makes soil healthy and strong. Worm poop… is plant FOOD?! That's the silliest snack ever! Thank you, worms! Back home you go. We always bring them back home. Want to make one? Ask a grown-up, keep it damp and dark, and put the worms back home after a week. Worms dig little tunnels… but who digs BIG tunnels? Bloom Trip! Ooh, I'm a SPACE axolotl! Who's making hills? That's a MOLE. Moles live almost their whole lives underground. Look at those front paws! Big and wide, like two shovels. It's like a tiny DIGGER! Nature's excavator! It swims through dirt! Like me in water! Show me your shovel paws! Dig, dig, dig! You're a mole! Ooh, what are these? ROOTS! Roots drink water from the soil… …and roots hold the plant in place, so it doesn't blow away. But roots can't drink or grow in hard, squashed dirt… it needs tunnels for air and water! We need DIGGING HELPERS in the park garden! Moles?! Worms! Uh… was that a raindrop? A little rain is GOOD for a garden. Oh no! The worms are on the SIDEWALK! Why did they come up?! Scientists are still figuring that out! One idea: when the ground is wet, worms can travel far without drying out. But sidewalks get hot and dry when the sun comes out. Worms need to stay DAMP! I'll grab them! Wait! Gentle hands, curious eyes. Let's think first. What does a worm need, mija? To stay damp! So we need… WET hands! Wet hands, no lotion or sunscreen. Worm skin is sensitive. Scoop gently, like a little bed. Never squeeze. ONE! TWO! THREE! FOUR! Count with us! FIVE! Worm rescue complete! Wait… what if we put the worms in the HARD beds? They'll dig tunnels for air and water, and make the soil soft for our roots! That's how real gardeners work: with worms, not against them. And the rain just softened the top for us too! It's not crunchy anymore! Then let's PLANT! First, the flower bulbs for next spring. How deep? Two or three times as tall as the bulb! One bulb… two bulbs… three bulbs deep! Pointy end UP! Which end goes up, pointy or flat? POINTY! Yes! Measure… perfect! Ooh, let's remix it… into a RAINBOW! What's the rainbow order? RED! ORANGE! YELLOW! GREEN! Green flowers are just leaves! Leaves count! BLUE! PURPLE! Roots, drink up! The worms dig, the roots drink, the flowers grow! Finished before sunset! Who digs underground? Worms… and moles… and US! Ooh, FACT FLASH! An earthworm has FIVE pairs of hearts. That's TEN! That's a LOT of love! That's beautiful AND brilliant! Petal Recap! Help our flower bloom! Under the garden: topsoil, subsoil… BEDROCK! Worms have no eyes. They feel light and breathe with their… SKIN! Worm tunnels bring air and… WATER! And castings feed the soil! Moles dig with shovel… PAWS! And roots drink and hold! Plant a bulb two or three times as deep, pointy end… UP! Petal Recap… BLOOMED! Wiggle-wiggle, WOW! Wonder it, draw it… KNOW IT! And always: gentle hands, curious eyes. Ozzie! I learned how worms dig, with NO hands! No way! I learned how DIGGERS dig! With hydraulics! Boom, stick, bucket! Is that a dance? And I saw your digger from my garden! And I saw your worm in the topsoil! Wiggles! Worms ARE mega. …Okay. Worms are MEGA. Watch it next on Ozzie Zooms! Wonder it, draw it… Zoom in, zoom out… …see you next time! Wiggle-wiggle… whoa-oa-oa!
