A firehouse PUPPY?! Tiny seeds and ocean dreams, paint and puppies, tasty things! Wonder it! Draw it! Know it, whoo! Juno Blooms! And so can you! Beep-beep… WOW! So LOUD! It's SUPPOSED to be loud! Fire Safety Day! There's a firehouse puppy! I want the FIRE TRUCK! Mija! I'm at the firehouse for Ember's checkup. Chief Owusu needs help with a puppy plan. Want to come? A PUPPY plan? Yes! My wonder question: When the smoke alarm beeps, what's the plan? Feel the beat! Puppy plan! I brought dog treats! And a snack for me. Welcome, Juno! I'm Chief Owusu. And this is Ember. Wait! Slow feet! Before you say hello to any dog, there's a plan for that too! Then let's look closer! Dog rule one: always ask the grown-up first. Chief, may I pet Ember? Yes, you may. Thank you for asking! Make a soft fist. Let her sniff. That's how dogs say hello. She kissed me! Gentle pets on the chest or side. Not on her face. And we never bother a dog while she eats or sleeps. Hello, Ember. You're so soft. Hi, spotty friend! And always: gentle hands, curious eyes. Now, junior helpers. See that round thing up there? It looks like a cookie! That's a smoke alarm. Every home needs them. Grown-ups press this button to test it. Ready? Cover your ears! Beep, beep, beep! It's a beat! Why is a smoke alarm so loud? So it wakes you up? So everybody hears it! Bloom Book, come alive! When smoke floats inside, the alarm senses it, and it beeps to warn us. It can smell smoke before you can. Even when you're asleep. It smells better than Ember? Ember has a great nose. But the alarm never sleeps! When you hear it, don't hide. Don't stop for toys. Get out, and stay out. Beep means… get out! Ember! What are you looking at? Horses? At a firehouse? Bloom Trip! Wheee! Long ago, fire wagons were pulled by horses. Dalmatians ran alongside. They barked to clear the way! Like a doggy siren! Dalmatians are great friends with horses. They helped keep them calm. They were called coach dogs, because they ran with coaches, like wagons. Spotty speedy! Then fire trucks got engines. No more horses to run with. But firefighters loved their spotted friends. So many kept them as firehouse mascots. Like Ember! Clip-clop, beep-beep… that's a SONG! Then let's sing the one firefighters love most! Beep-beep… WOW! Beep, beep, beep! Get low and go! Under the smoke, nice and slow! Find the door, then out we flow, Meet at the tree, and stay out! Whoa! Smoke goes up, so we stay down, Hands and knees along the ground! That's it! Two ways out! A door! A window! Where do we meet? The big tree, you know! Make-It Moment! Let's make an escape map! An escape map shows how to get out of your home. Draw your rooms first. Straight walls! Measure… perfect! How many ways out should every room have? One, or two? One door is enough? Two! If one way is blocked, you use the other. Way out number one: the door! Way out number two: the window! A grown-up checks that windows open easily. And every way out stays clear. And smoke alarms! Beep, beep, beep! Now… where do we meet outside? Pick a meeting spot. Outside, away from the house. Something that never moves. The snack store? Too far! The big tree in your yard! The big tree! Our meeting spot! Bloom Book, come alive! Every room has two ways out. Everyone meets at the tree. Where's MY arrow? Good question, Lolo. We'll make a pet plan too. Soon! Want to make one? Draw it with a grown-up, and practice it together! Ember wants us to practice! The gray cloth is pretend smoke. Where does real smoke go? Up, or down? Smoke rises. The cleaner air stays down low. Up! So we go down! Get low and go. Hands and knees, under the smoke, to the exit. Left, right, left! Crawl to the beat! Follow the arrows to the exit! I'm bringing my snacks! In a real fire, leave everything. Snacks, toys, all of it. Just get out. Bye, snacks. I'll see you later. The smoke is up there! We're down here! Out! Now where do we go? The meeting spot! And once you're out, you stay out. Firefighters do the rest. Let's practice at Juno's house! Grandpa Otis says yes! Practice at home. Okay! Practice in three… two… Wait… which way?! Juno! The map! The map! The door… and the big tree! Everybody! Get low and go! Leaving my snacks! Count with us! ONE! TWO! THREE! FOUR! Count with us! FIVE! SIX! Six people… wait. Where's Lolo? I'll run back in and get him! No, mija. Kids never go back inside. Not for anything. But Lolo's my best friend! That's why grown-ups make the pet plan. And in a real fire, you tell a firefighter. Good job, everyone! You all got out! Chief! My friend Lolo is still inside! Thank you for telling me. That's exactly right. Firefighters help pets, too. I'm on the plan! Here's a pet plan. Grown-ups know where pets like to hide. Ember hides under the bed. Lolo lives on the counter. Leashes and carriers go right by the door. Grown-ups do the pet plan. Kids get out and tell a firefighter. Now everyone's on our map. Even the pets! Let's count again! With Lolo! One, two, three, four, five, six… SEVEN! That's me! And Ember makes eight! Two ways out, a meeting spot, and a pet plan. That's a family plan! Ladder Three, non-emergency. Kite on the library roof. Ember wants to watch her truck. Let's walk her there together. Ember! There you are! We made our escape plan! Two ways out! We did Stop, Drop, and Roll! Firehouse puppy plan… complete! Wee-ooo, WOW! Ooh, fact flash! The first firehouse sliding pole was in Chicago, in 1878. It was made of wood! Wood? Ooh, splinters! That's beautiful AND brilliant! Petal Recap! Help our flower bloom! When the smoke alarm beeps, we get… OUT! Smoke rises, so we get low and… GO! Two ways out, and meet at the… TREE! Long ago, Dalmatians ran with… HORSES! Grown-ups make the pet plan. Kids never go back… INSIDE! Petal Recap… BLOOMED! Wee-ooo, WOW! Make your plan with a grown-up. Practice it two times a year! Ozzie! We made a fire escape map, with a pet plan! And I saw a ladder truck rescue a kitten kite! It went up… ten stories high! Whoa! Giga-mega! Ember helped your rescue! She found me at the library! That's Ember! Watch it next on Ozzie Zooms! Wonder it, draw it… Zoom in, zoom out… …see you next time! Junior helper Lolo… reporting! …Woof?
