Wait… WHAT?! Tiny seeds and ocean dreams, paint and puppies, tasty things! Wonder it! Draw it! Know it, whoo! Juno Blooms! And so can you! Look, Lolo. A chicken… or a dinosaur? A chick-a-saurus! Stomp, stomp! I'm a T. rex! Good. 'Cause I'm drawing one. That's a CHICKEN. Chickens are dinosaurs, Ozzie. No way! We'll see. ¡Ay, mija! My hens slipped out! All five! Oh no! The latch came loose. Hens need to be back in their coop by sunset. Will you help? We'll find them! Can we bring the hens a snack? Corn! Good idea, Lolo! My wonder question: Are chickens dinosaurs? Feel the beat! Hen hunt! I brought corn AND a basket! Ooh, it's Dino Day at the park today! There's one… in a flower pot! Before we start, my hen helpers… we need rules! Hen rule number one: gentle hands… …curious eyes! No chasing, no grabbing. Grown-ups do the holding. Slow feet. Got it. And after we're near the hens, we wash with soap. A robin! Can I pet it? Wild birds we only WATCH. From far away. There's Clementine. Look at her feet. Three toes in front! Count her front toes with me! One, two, THREE! Scaly legs! Like a dragon! Or like a… dinosaur? Bloom Book — COME ALIVE! And now… a dinosaur skeleton! They're TWINS! Like you and Ozzie! Both walk on two legs, with three big toes in front. And both have a WISHBONE! Lots of meat-eating dinosaurs did. Wishbones! We pull those at dinner! Many of their bones were hollow, like straws. Light and strong! Bones like STRAWS? So light! Scientists call this family THEROPODS. T. rex is in it… and so are ALL birds! So birds are… living DINOSAURS?! Living dinosaurs. ¡Sí! Yes! Are birds dinosaurs? Yes or no? YES! Living ones! Is THAT a dinosaur too? Every bird is! Wait… did dinosaurs have feathers like Clementine? Bloom Trip! Ooh, I'm a TIME axolotl! Lots of dinosaurs had fluffy fuzz, or feathers! It's cleaning its fuzz like Clementine! Some had fancy arm feathers, maybe for showing off. Showing off! Like Priya's outfits! This is Yutyrannus. A big cousin of T. rex. And it was FLUFFY! A fluffy T. rex cousin! Was T. rex fluffy too? Good question! Scientists found bits of T. rex skin… …and those bits had SCALES. At least so far! Scientists are still finding out! Did lots of dinosaurs have fuzz or feathers? Yes! Lots! So fluffy! Wiggle-wiggle, WOW! Strut, peck, fluff… Lolo, that's a SONG! Bloop bloop! Ready, dino birds? Cluck like a dino! Strut, strut, strut! Peck, peck, peck, and fluff it up! Three big toes and a wishbone too, Birds are dinosaurs! Whoo-hoo-hoo! Long ago the dinos grew some fuzz, Fluff keeps you warm, that's what fluff does! Never pick up wild bird feathers. One's fluffy. One's stiff and straight! If I blow on them, which one floats away? The big one! It's huge! Neither. They'll just… sit there? Aw, I was wrong! Wrong guesses help us learn! Fluffy DOWN traps warm air close to the body. Like a cozy blanket! This one PUSHES the air! Stiff flight feathers on the wings help birds FLY. Stiff makes lines. Fluffy makes clouds! And bright feathers help birds SHOW OFF their colors. Feathers keep birds warm, help them show off, and…? FLY! A feather hat! I'm a dino bird! Use craft feathers, ask a grown-up, and wash hands after! Hey! Tiny footprints… with three toes! Dino bird tracks! Let's follow them! Tiptoe beat… tip, tip, toe! Tip, tip, toe… Three big toes in front. One little toe in back. Found two! Ooh, a corn trail! No, a corn ROAD! Look! A giant footprint at Dino Day! It's a T. rex footprint! Want a look? Same shape! Just WAY bigger! Whose footprint is bigger? T. REX! Clementine has tiny T. rex feet! An EGG! Dinosaurs laid eggs too. And some sat on their nests, just like hens! Hens have scaly legs. And T. rex skin had scales, too. Gracias, Luna. Into the run you go. Hazel came home by herself! One, two, three, FOUR! Four… Where's Clementine? My HAT! My dino-bird hat… And Clementine needs to be home by sunset. I'll run and find them both! Wait. No running at hens. Gentle hands, curious eyes. So what clues do we have? Footprints… and FLUFF! Five hens, five eggs! Will they hatch? No rooster here, so no chicks. Just eggs! Today, five! But a hen lays about one egg a day. Some days, none. It takes a hen about a whole day to make one egg. How many eggs a day? One, or ten? About ONE! Ten would be SO many pancakes! After hens and eggs: soap and water. Scrub, scrub! Look! Bubble gloves! Home before sunset. ¡Gracias, mis ayudantes!
